Local owners acquire Valleybrook Golf and Country Club

Chattanooga-based commercial real estate development group Urban Story Ventures has acquired Valleybrook Golf and Country Club from Luken Holdings.

General partner and co-owner Jimmy White says the group intends to reignite the historic brand and redevelop the property as a premier golf and social club.

“It’s an exciting time for me, our team and Valleybrook’s members,” he adds. “While this transition might take time, it will lead to a club experience we can’t wait to share.”

Based in Hixson, Valleybrook Golf and Country Club was one of the first 18-hole residential golf course communities built in the U.S., according to a news release from Urban Story Ventures. Over the years, it rose in prestige across the Southeast as it hosted nine PGA Tour events and other national tournaments.

Today, members and guests of Valleybrook can take advantage of traditional amenities, including practice green, driving range, pro shop, locker rooms, full-service restaurant and bar and an event space with catering.

While the club is semi-private, the new owners plan to “reimagine the membership program and reevaluate course and club access,” White says, who’s leading the redevelopment.

White is leaning on his experience on and off the greens to execute the Valleybrook vision. Not only has he worked with hedge funds to build golf courses across the Southeast, he’s also a former professional golfer who spent his early years developing his game at Valleybrook.

After playing for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville’s men’s golf team, White competed as a professional based in South Florida. His real estate career followed.

Although this is the first golf course Urban Story Ventures has developed, the company has over 10 years of experience in commercial real estate redevelopments. The Edney, King Street Station and the Bend are all examples of local mixed-use redevelopments by White and Urban Story Ventures.
