Firefighters raise more than $79K for MDA

During the 2018 MDA Fill the Boot campaign, the Chattanooga Fire Department and Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association Local 820 took to the streets to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases. More than $79,000 was raised to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

“Chattanooga’s firefighters once again showed their immense dedication and care for the MDA’s families during this year’s Fill the Boot campaign,” says Holly Carroll, the MDA’s regional manager of Firefighter Partnerships. “We’re grateful for the generosity of those in the community who made this year’s Fill the Boot a huge success.”

Fire fighters have taken part in the MDA’s Fill the Boot tradition for more than 60 years, hitting the streets and asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and others to donate to the MDA and join the fight to find treatments and cures for devastating diseases that take away everyday abilities like walking, talking and even breathing.

“We have always been big supporters of the Muscular Dystrophy Association,” says Chattanooga Fire Department Chief Phil Hyman, “but we couldn’t do it without the generous donations from our local citizens. They have big hearts.”

Money raised will help the MDA fund groundbreaking research across diseases, finance life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art Care Centers and send local kids to MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families.
