“Pretty in Pink” executive director wins Fan Favorite award
Lynda Hood, executive director of the Chattanooga Bar Association, won the “Fan Favorite” award at the Dancing with the Stars Chattanooga competition held at the Tivoli Theatre to benefit the Partnership for Families Children and Adults. The Fan Favorite award is given to the dancer who raises the most money for their area of the Partnership through votes and pre-event donations.

The J.T. Lupton home, “Lyndhurst” in Riverview, recognized throughout the South as one of the finest homes in the area, has been purchased by T.A. Lupton, Jr., president of the Stone Fort Land Company from Cartter Lupton. The house will be razed and the 16 acres of land will be subdivided into approximately 15 lots averaging one acre each in size.
Crabtree Farms driving community food system education
It’s a hot June morning on Crabtree Farms, but that’s not stopping volunteers from claiming the spring harvest. Spread out across a swath of land that surrounds a barn located just one mile from the hustle and bustle of Rossville Boulevard South, small groups of workers can be seen digging up carrots, cutting the roots off beets and snipping the stems off zinnias. Close to the barn, a mother and her children are picking blackberries off plants supported by trellises. Beyond them, a pair of greenhouses, where the spring harvest got its start during the winter months, stands empty of people.

With my husband’s birthday coming up, I have gotten plenty of hints that this year socks are not going to cut it.? Maybe another tie? – no – apparently, ties are on the black list too.? So when my friend James mentioned he had a bike and was looking to sell it, I told him to hold that thought.? It would be win-win for James and for me; he gets rid of something he does not want, and I get credit for a birthday gift more thoughtful than socks or ties.

As we rapidly approach another 4th of July celebration and yet another election year, I can’t help but wonder what our founding fathers would have thought about our current method of getting to know our candidates for some of the most important offices in government.

The previews were already playing as we made our way up the stairs towards the back row. Sudden brightness from the large screen illuminated the seats, letting me see that most were occupied. But looking up to the back row, back in the corner, I could see four empty chairs.

Rehearsal dinner toast, part 2
Ted won several geography bees, spelling bees and quiz bowl competitions. Where did he learn this?! Susan and I are not geographically savvy. We did not drill him on these topics of encourage game-show competitiveness.
At 14, Ted formed Fleming Technologies and began trouble-shooting computers. If you lived on our street, he’d babysit for you by night and fix your computer by day!

Preserving a culture
The bright colors of the costuming in the classical Indian dance, and the smiling children as they do yoga exercises each Thursday are things that would be a shame if lost simply because of distance. If these beautiful and diverse traditions can be carried along and shared with any population across the sea, Chattanooga is honored in the opportunity to learn about another culture at their fingertips.

“Toy Story 3” made me cry. Like Andy making Woody say, “Reach for the sky,” Pixar Studios pulled my string and the waterworks began. I would’ve been less embarrassed if I’d jumped up and shouted, “There’s a snake in my boots!”
I suppose I had nothing to be ashamed of. No matter how old we grow, we never forget our favorite childhood toys. For me, it was a stuffed rabbit I first saw on a rocking chair on Easter morning in 1970. We had a lot of adventures together, many of which involved me pretending he was a football and my diving leap onto my bed was the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.
