Well-played ruse snares coppinger
Liberty Bell Award recipient falls victim to ‘unprecedented conspiracy’

Around noon on May 4, Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger learned he’d fallen prey to subterfuge.

He was sitting next to one of the conspirators, Chattanooga Bar Association Executive Director Lynda Hood, in the Silver Ballroom of the Read House Hotel when he realized he’d been duped.

From runner to partner: Greene’s journey with Miller & Martin

Miller & Martin attorney Zac Greene can remember the first assignment he received while under the employ of the firm.

It didn’t involve representing a corporation in a business dispute or defending an individual in a white-collar criminal case, both of which fill his time today.

Fleischmann honors CBA anniversary before Congress

A highlight of the Chattanooga Bar Association’s 2022 Law Day luncheon was the presentation of a copy of a statement U.S Rep. Chuck Fleischmann read into the U.S. Congressional Record honoring the CBA on its 125th year.

Fleischmann read the statement to his peers April 7. The congressman then played a video of the proceeding during the CBA’s Law Day Luncheon at Read House Hotel May 4 and presented three copies of the statement to the CBA.

Mom’s influence undeniable for Catlett

Jennifer Catlett says she’s just a little Ringgold girl.

But this modest and unassuming native of the small Georgia town that has been her home since birth is anything but little when it comes to real estate.

Catlett, 36, has been the lead agent at Crye-Leike’s Ft. Oglethorpe office since becoming a Realtor in 2017 and is one of the company’s top 10 solo agents in the Chattanooga area.

Thinking ‘green’ all year long

While another Earth Day has come and gone, it’s important to remember being good to the environment and embracing sustainability is more than an annual one-day acknowledgment – it should be top of mind daily. It’s a way of life and has a significant impact on the real estate industry.

Building safety tips for the busy summer season

Jobsite safety is important every day, but as the weather gets warmer and the calendar fills up, having safety as a top priority can be critical for contractors.

When schedules get tight, it can be easy to cut corners, accidentally overlook important safety protocols or overwork in hot weather. Having your company and crews follow best practice safety standards helps keep everyone safe and promotes a positive work environment.

ML Utilities acquires Cherokee Truck Equipment

ML Utilities has acquired Chattanooga-based Cherokee Truck Equipment. Through the acquisition, ML Utilities has expanded its operational territory and scope of services while doubling the size of its team.

The acquisition includes the addition of Cherokee’s 20,000-square-foot facility in Chattanooga and its 15,000-square-foot branch in Mableton, Georgia.

Financial Focus: Harness the power of budgeting

When you hear the word “budgeting,” your first thought might be that it’s mostly for young people starting out in their careers and adult lives. Yet, budgeting can be important for everyone, no matter their age.

And even if you feel that you’re in pretty good financial shape, with a reasonable amount of savings and investments, you can still benefit by establishing a budget or improving your current one.

Personal Finance: Dealing with death? There’s an app for that

Before the pandemic, entrepreneurs Liz Eddy and Alyssa Ruderman had trouble getting venture capitalists to invest Lantern, their end-of-life planning app. Potential business partners were skeptical, as well.

“We would hear, ‘Oh, this is really a niche issue,’ which I think is pretty hilarious,” Eddy says. “Death is quite literally the only thing on the planet that affects every single person.”

Rogers column: Well, at least legislators helped protect dogs

The best spin that can be put on the recently completed legislative session is that it could have been worse. Especially for those who indulge in plant-based mind-altering products. More on that later, but first, a big thumbs-up:

Joker’s Law is law.

Career Corner: Congrats college graduates – now get busy on job search

This is a big month. Graduates are emerging from college after spending more than two years in a pandemic. Can you imagine what it would have been like to spend your junior and senior years of college being isolated and learning via Zoom? I can’t. Hats off to the graduates who have pulled through this tough time.

Two with two: Grand Cherokee vs. Passport

Upgrading from a compact to a midsize SUV doesn’t need to include a third row. Small families and empty nesters who want a bit more versatility can enjoy a midsize crossover’s cabin volume without the need to stow or store unused seats.
