Tennessee Sen. Bo Watson (R-Hixson) has been selected to chair the Council of State Governments’ Healthy States National Task Force. Watson will lead the task force with co-chair Delaware State Sen. Bryan Townsend (D-Newark).
The group will spend two years surveying best practices and state initiatives during planned task force meetings, some of which will be held at the annual CSG national conferences.
The task force will also:
• Explore policy options for states
• Examine case studies and review recent state responses to health crises
• Explore state preventive health programs that are having a positive impact on state budgets and residents
• Examine and promote best practices for reducing health care costs and increasing efficiencies in state health programs
Watson is a licensed physical therapist. He also chairs the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee.
