Police launch property crimes Facebook page

The Chattanooga Police Department’s property crimes unit is now on social media with the “Chattanooga Police Property Crimes Division” Facebook page.

The CPD’s property crimes team covers burglary, fraud, pawn and robbery. The purpose of the new Facebook page is to share information about suspects that have not yet been arrested, identify local property crime trends and offer property crime prevention tips.

Property Crimes Division investigators will update the page regularly and partner with organizations such as Crime Stoppers to encourage community members to report information they might have about ongoing investigations.

“When police and community members work together, we can solve crimes quicker, making our community a safer place,” says Property Crimes Acting Lt. Kevin Akins.

The department does have a Facebook page, but uses the platform for all CPD-related matters. The CPD’s Property Crimes Division Facebook page is intended to serve as an additional tool to assist in solving, reducing and preventing property crimes.

Community members are still encouraged to report property crimes by calling 911 or 423 698-2525 (non-emergency). Tips can be submitted privately on the Property Crimes Facebook page or through the Chattanooga Police mobile app available in the iOS or Android app stores.
