On Saturday, Aug. 18, 4 p.m.-midnight, McKamey Animal Center will open an offsite adoption center at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, 7547 E. Brainerd Road. An estimated 100 pets will be available for adoption.
As an incentive to adopt shelter animals, McKamey will be waiving all adoption fees with the purchase of a $25 new pet starter kit. All McKamey animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated according to their age and given parasite prevention. Cats are leukemia-tested and dogs are heartworm-tested.

Free housing law clinic
Legal Aid of East Tennessee will host a free housing law clinic at the Chattanooga Family Justice Center, 5705 Uptain Road near Eastgate Mall, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24.
Wellness conference for women and girls
The Chattanooga chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will host its annual health and financial wellness conference for women and girls at Erlanger Baroness Hospital Medical Mall on Saturday, Sept. 8, 7:45 a.m.-2 p.m.
The conference is free and limited to 225 participants. Pre-registration is required. Registration is open and ends Saturday, Sept. 1. Women and girls may pre-register by calling 423 778-5465. Walk-ins will be accommodated if space permits. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Citizens Police Academy
The next Chattanooga Citizens’ Police Academy begins Thursday, Sept. 13. The group will meet on nine consecutive Thursday evenings. The academy offers community members a look inside the Chattanooga Police Department and how it works. Police officers will teach class participants about the use of force, SWAT, patrol, narcotics, special investigations and more.
