The Chickamauga Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution has honored Chattanooga Bar Association Executive Director Lynda Minks Hood with the 2017 Community Service Award. Hood was recognized for her “contributions to the community in an outstanding manner.”
Hood is vice-chairperson of Erlanger and Children’s Hospital Foundation Council and will assume the chair for 2018-2019.
She is past chairperson and a lifetime member of the UTC Chancellor’s Roundtable, has served or is serving on the boards of directors of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, St. Peter’s Episcopal School, the American Cancer Society, the River Valley Chapter March of Dimes, Inner-city Ministries and the Sentenga Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Hood is a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga and was nominated for the group’s first Lifetime Achievement Award.
She was one of 10 2011 Women of Distinction in Chattanooga and a Circle of Red woman of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women.
The DAR established the Community Service Award as an opportunity for chapters and states to recognize worthy individuals and organizations for outstanding, unpaid voluntary achievements in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historical, citizenship or environmental conservation endeavors.
The DAR, a society of women who are direct descendants of Revolutionary War patriots, supports historic preservation, education and patriotism. In 2017, DAR members worldwide have volunteered 2.2 million hours in service to America.
