SAU announces 2017 Servant Leader honorees




Southern Adventist University will pay tribute to three Chattanooga community members during the Honoring Servant Leaders President’s Gala on Oct. 5, 5:30 p.m., on the university’s campus.

The honorees are Wilmer Perez, a student at Howard High School, Irvin Overton, volunteer and Ron Lowe, a former executive director at Every Valley Leadership Academy.

A high school junior, Perez is active in the community, offering translation assistance to the Hispanic population and helping people adapt to the American culture.

He is also involved at school, where he serves in student government and is part of the Howard hospitality team.

Now retired after a career in health care administration, Overton, a Chattanooga native, hosts Bible studies at an assisted living facility, works with students at various schools, serves as board chairman of A Night to Remember and is active in his church.

Beyond his work with Every Valley Leadership Academy, Lowe serves several local organizations, including community centers and educational associations. He also is active with the  Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce.

Southern University will present awards to these individuals during the President’s Gala.
