Victor Fleming of Little Rock, Arkansas will speak to the Chattanooga Breakfast Rotary Club on Friday, Sept. 8, at 7:30 a.m. His topic will be “Life’s a Puzzle – Let’s Fill in the Blanks.” The club meets at Rivermont Presbyterian Church (3319 Hixson Pike).
Fleming writes a crossword monthly for The Rotarian, the magazine of Rotary International.
Fleming’s “I Swear Crossword” ran in the Hamilton County Herald for several years, as did a humor column that he authored for more than 20 years. Fleming discontinued those items at the end of 2016.
Fleming will also present a music-and-humor program on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Life Care Center of Hixson (5501 Old Hixson Pike). He will perform original songs and covers, accompanying himself on the guitar.
Fleming is a judge, law professor, author, musician and cruciverblaist.
After practicing law in Little Rock from 1978-1996, he has served as a district court judge since 1997. Starting in 2003, he became an adjunct professor at Bowen Law School at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, where he teaches Law & Literature.
Fleming is the author of “Real Lawyers Do Change Their Briefs” (1989) and “Perry’s Dead – And the ‘Juice’ is Loose” (1995) collections of humorous stories from actual cases. He has also published an ebook of crossword puzzles.
He was featured in “Wordplay” (2006), a documentary about the crossword puzzle industry, in which he performed his song “If You Don’t Come Across, I’m Gonna be Down.” He has had 46 crosswords published in the New York Times, including a puzzle co-authored with former president Bill Clinton in May of this year.
