Atlanta-based data center services firm dcBLOX has opened a facility in downtown Chattanooga. The new facility is the second data center location for the company, which secured more than $15 million in funding in 2016.
dcBLOX selected Chattanooga because of its smart utility grid, proximity to major fiber carriers and closeness to Atlanta, company officials say.
“The efforts we have made over the last decade to make this a technological destination are paying off with companies like dcBLOX investing in our community,” Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger says. “We spend a lot of time and effort educating people for the kind of jobs dcBLOX offers, and our reward is companies like dcBLOX coming to Hamilton County and offering good family wage jobs.”
“We’re the perfect location for high-tech, forward-thinking companies like dcBLOX,” Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke adds. “This investment will create many good-paying jobs in our city and demonstrates that we have the assets and infrastructure to attract next-generation technology companies to Chattanooga.”
The opening of the Chattanooga site enables dcBLOX to provide Active-to-Active high-speed synchronization of IT systems over a geographically diverse area and almost instantaneous disaster recovery for data-intensive applications.
dcBLOX co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Jake Ring explains, “Our 100 gigabyte private optical network connecting our Atlanta and Chattanooga locations is scalable to over 17 terabytes, so customers can transfer, backup and restore large business-critical datasets and systems in minutes, if not mere seconds.”
