During a month devoted to celebrating family and friends and demonstrating gratefulness, the staff and board members of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area (HHGC) have designated the second Friday of November as a day of service.
More than 30 Habitat officials, along with Glass Street Collective staff, spent the day picking up trash, removing brush and weeds from lawns, pressure washing sidewalks, completing rehab projects and cultivating relationships with residents living in the Glass Farms neighborhood.
“We rely on volunteers to help us transform communities and build ... homes for working families,” said David Butler, executive director of HHGC. “Each year, we devote a full day of service in November ... to give back. It’s indeed a blessing to be a blessing!”
As part of Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to transform communities and expand its impact, Habitat launched its Neighborhood Revitalization Program in 2013. The program encompasses community engagement, completion of critical home repair projects and exterior repair and preservation. The intent of Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program is to enhance the quality of life in targeted neighborhoods through partnering with residents, nonprofits, funders and volunteers.
For the past three years, HHGC focused its efforts on 34 homes in the Bushtown Neighborhood. Habitat has transitioned out of Bushtown and is now working in the Class Farm neighborhood.
