The Chattanooga Police Department is joining forces with the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga and the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga to launch the Each One Reach One (EORO) initiative. The EORO collaboration will offer financial incentive to those community members who support and facilitate the recruitment of a minority candidate to the CPD.
“Each One Reach One is an effort to support the Chattanooga Police Department’s commitment to diversity and community policing,” said Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher. “The initiative will serve as a platform for relationship building between police and the community in an effort to support a safer Chattanooga for each and every citizen.”
Made possible by a $10,000 grant provided by the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, community members who recommend a minority candidate who is later successfully accepted into the Chattanooga Police Academy will be awarded $500. Qualified applicants can be nominated by completing a personal reference questionnaire available on the CPD website. The CPD is seeking candidates who possess integrity, good judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of citizens, it said in a press release.
All applicants must pass each of the following stages in order to qualify for admission to the Chattanooga Police Academy: the completion and return of all required application documents; entry level written exam; physical ability test; preliminary questionnaire and interview; extensive background investigation of criminal history, employment history, residences, scholastic record, credit history, and driving history; polygraph examination; final interview; psychological review; and medical examination and drug testing.
“Through Each One Reach One, we are working to foster a police force that is as diverse as the community it serves,” said Warren E. Logan, Jr., president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga. “This initiative also allows the Chattanooga Police Department to broaden its recruitment efforts by reaching those that community members personally recommend.”
