The family home is usually the most significant asset in divorce and elder mediation, and often, significant debt is involved.

However, the value of the home (the appraisal) minus the mortgage (what the homeowners owe the bank) does not equal actual equity. This incomplete equation can leave a house overvalued, which works against the participants in a mediation for divorce or elder matters.

Andy Hodes, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty East Brainerd, has completed course work to earn the RCS-D designation (Real Estate Collaboration Specialist – Divorce). An RCS-D Realtor is trained to neutralize divorce real estate as a business transaction in the best interest of the house – and each divorcing spouse.

Hodes can also serve as a project manager working with his clients and their lawyers, can refer his customers to real estate and financial professionals who specialize in divorce, can help gather house-related documents, and can schedule consultations.
