Saturday, Aug. 12, 1912

Mrs. Howard McCall and children are guests at Three Oaks on Walden’s Ridge.

Jimmy Johnston, a local lad, has won a regular place in the line-up of the Brooklyn Ball Club, and will play in the World Series. The New York Evening Sun listed him as “Jimmy Johnston Star.”

Sunday, Aug. 13

Capt. and Mrs. J.F. Shipp celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Saturday with an old fashioned dinner at their home, Lookout Place. They were married in Social Circle, Ga. Mrs. Shipp was Miss Lillie Eckles. They are the parents of seven children: Mrs. W.A. Meyers; Mrs. Johnny Dobbs; Misses Mary and Lillian Shipp, C.E.; and Joe, Frank, and John Shipp.

Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Pyott announce the engagement of their daughter, Istalena, to Mr. Frank S. Barker. The wedding will take place at an early date.

Mr. and Mrs. Roe Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. William Davenport, and Misses Lilla and Katherine Davenport are at Mentone, Ga., for a stay.

Monday, Aug. 14

Misses Helen and Blanche Woodward have returned from New York, Philadelphia, and Washington. They returned by way of Savannah.

Col. W.R. Crabtree has gone in for scientific dairying on his Belvoir Farm. He recently bought two herds of Jersey cows of the highest breed, and his new dairy is said to be the best equipped in the state.

Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Willingham, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Willingham, and L.M. Mitchell have motored to Rhea Springs to spend the week.

Tuesday, Aug. 15

Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Buek and Mrs. Harry Lacey motored to Knoxville for the weekend.

Misses Lorena and Betty Faye Bates will return the first of the week from New York, where they have been attending summer school.

Clifford Grayson is leaving today for Teewatin, Ontario, to enter the Harbor Law School there. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Grayson of Missionary Ridge.

Wednesday, Aug. 16

Miss Bess Patton entertained Tuesday for her sister, Lillian Patton, a recent graduate of Chattanooga High School, who leaves to enter Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.

Miss Lucille Thomas will return today from Spring City, where she has been the guest of relatives for several weeks.

Mrs. Eugene O’Connor and daughter, Eugenia, of Detroit, Mich., are the guests of Mrs. Ethel DeBardelaben and Mrs. LG. Dearing.

Thursday, Aug. 17

Commissioner H.D. Huffaker, after a long conference with the City Commission, has awarded the contract to build the new Junior High School to Park-Grimes Co. The building will cost $68,000, and will be modern and fireproof. It will be the greatest improvement in years in the City School system, said the elated commissioner.

The following have returned from a trip to Elk River: Mr. and Mrs. M.N. Whitaker; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Whitaker; Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Whitaker: Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Phillips: Mrs. Cora Griffin Jones; and Kenneth Whitaker.

Miss Martha Foster of Franklin, La., is the guest of her sister, Mrs. John Hyde, and Mr. Hyde.

Friday, Aug. 18

Miss Margaret McKinney and Edwin Lawrence Tankesley were married Thursday afternoon at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. McKinney in Highland Park. Dr. T.S. McCallie officiated. Miss Amelia Milligan was maid of honor; Mrs. Hugh Vinson, matron of honor; and Hugh Vinson, best man. The ring bearer was Carolyn Trotter. Ribbon bearers were Faye Raulston, Madeline Pemberton, Agnes Ruff, and Margaret Donelson. Following a reception, the bride and groom left for a wedding trip.
