The Family Service Agency staff took the first step Friday night toward establishing the “Leah James Foundation,” which is named to honor their retiring executive director and organized to make scholarships available to graduate students in social work. The staff has presented their $300 check as their first donation.

Central High School’s Rifle Team was recently awarded the National Junior Indoor Non-Military Scholastic Rifle Team championship for 1966, bringing to Chattanooga the fourth national championship won by city athletes within a month.
Monday, July 11
A $101,000 chapel-activities building at the Baptist Children’s Home, 6623 Lee Highway, begun June 15, was dedicated today. The Home, founded and dedicated in May of 1954, is one of four Baptist Children’s Homes in Tennessee. The Rev. Richard L. Johnson is resident superintendent.

Combustion Engineering, Chattanooga Division, announced three changes in its organization. John H. Slack, general manager, announced that S.V. Bonner, manager of quality control, is being transferred to Combustion Engineering’s offices in Windsor, Conn. I.L. Bailey is appointed manager of quality control here replacing Bonner. E.S. Proctor has been promoted to manager of quality control for the nuclear components department.

William B. Riley, who joined Brock Candy Co., in 1925, headed its sales operation for 20 years and has been executive vice president since 1958, has been elected president of the company, announced W.E. Brock, Jr., chairman of the board, and Richard A. Brock, president of the company since 1956, has been elevated to the position of vice chairman of the board.
Garden Club leaders, National Park Service officials, and civic leaders gathered at Signal Point Park on Signal Mountain this morning for the dedication of $10,000 work of improvements at the seven acre tract which since 1948 has been a part of Chattanooga – Chickamauga National Military Park.
Thursday, July 14
The annual meeting of the Chattanooga – Hamilton County Chapter of the American Red Cross Wednesday heard Edward J. Gully of Atlanta, regional manager of the Southeast area of the Red Cross. W. Henry Trotter was elected chairman of the Chattanooga – Hamilton County Chapter to succeed Richard C. Thatcher, Jr., who retired after two terms as chairman.
Rossville’s proposed $165,000 health center received approval of the Appalachian Regional Commission in Washington, Wednesday. The center would provide improved health services, health education and contribute to a stepped-up battle against communicable diseases.

Bayard Ewing, Provident, R.I., attorney and chairman of the executive committee of the United Community Funds and Councils of America, will address a joint United Fund – Kiwanis Club luncheon Tuesday, August 2 at Hotel Patten. Henry Trotter, United Fund Campaign chairman, and Louis Harris, president of the Kiwanis Club, announced.
