Saturday, July 1, 1916

Congressman John A. Moon on June 21 appointed LeRoy C. Wilson, son of Prof. and Mrs. P.C. Wilson, to the United States Military Academy. He successfully passed the entrance examinations and will leave tomorrow for West Point.

Miss Mary Hayes of East Chattanooga and Mr. George Wilbur Johnson were married Thursday evening, June 29, at the home of the bride’s parents. Dr. W.F. Powell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. The young couple left immediately after the ceremony for an Eastern wedding trip.

Sunday, July 2

Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Jones announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Annie May, to Mr. R. Garner Watkins. The wedding will take place in October. Mr. Watkins is the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Watkins.

Lookout Mountain residents boast of a Flower Garden Club organized Saturday at the home of Mrs. Z.C. Patten, Jr. Plans to complete the organization and elect officers will take place Monday.

Monday, July 3

First Aid classes have been organized and will start soon with Dr. J. Louis Bibb and Dr. Raymond Wallace as instructors. Mrs. Loaring Clark was instrumental in the organization.

Dr. C.A. Skelton of Chattanooga and Miss Gertrude Schultz of Cleveland were married Sunday by Dr. W.S. Neighbors. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Schultz. Following their wedding trip, Dr. and Mrs. Skelton will reside at 4210 Tennessee Ave. in St. Elmo.

Mrs. P.C. Pennebaker and granddaughters Misses Elizabeth and Margaret Dineen are visiting in Somerset, Ky., and will go later to Danville, Ky.

Tuesday, July 4

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smartt are with Mr. and Mrs. G.M. Smartt on Fort Wood for the summer.

Miss Catherine Henderson is spending a week with Miss Virginia Isbester at Belvoir Farms.

Wednesday, July 5

A cablegram was received telling of the safe arrival at Liverpool of Raymond Seagle, son, and Hannibal Seagle of St. Elmo. Young Seagle will serve as secretary to the U.S. Consul in Leipzig, Germany.

Misses Rachel and Adelaide Cook, Emma Sue Smartt, and Louise Frazier, went to Cleveland to visit Miss Evelyn Hannah and Mrs. James F. Johnston at Tucker Springs.

Thursday, July 6

Have you ever eaten at George K. Brown’s Palace on Market Street at Seventh? Try this combination: ice cream in a glass with grape juice garnished with grapes and a candied violet leaf. It’s delicious.

Major J.H. Warner, who is spending the summer at Cherokee Springs, Ga., is the guest of his son Porter Warner for a few days.

Friday, July 7

A two-week outing for 25 happy Boy Scouts started today at Roberts Mill up on Dry Valley Road. Mr. W.H. Sears is in charge of the Scout movement in Chattanooga. M.J. Butelbach is in charge of the camp.

Mrs. Howard McCall and sons have gone to Walden’s Ridge for a few weeks’ stay at Three Oaks.
