The Homebuilders Association of Greater Chattanooga was angling for a day of fun as it hosted its First Annual Bass Fishing tournament Saturday, June 18 at Chester Frost Park. The Association had an excellent turnout, with 90 fishermen casting their lines from 45 boats in a three-bass competition.

“Saturday’s weather was beautiful, and provided a great day for fishing,” said Cynthia Blackwell, communications and special events coordinator at the Association. “Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered.”

Baron Adams and Benny Henry reeled in first place with a total weight of 18.44 pounds of bass. They won $2,000 for their efforts. Kenny Marsh and Roger Rhey hauled in enough fish – 15.76 pounds – to place second and win $750. Marsh and Rhey also caught the biggest bass of the tournament – a 9.02 pound whopper that earned them an additional $250. Stephen Barnes placed third with a total weight of 15.29 pounds. His prize: $500.

The festivities started Friday evening with a cookout, door prizes, and an auction. The Chattanooga Bass Association helped with the weigh in.

Presenting sponsors included: Home Choice Windows and Doors; Windsor Windows; and AFS. Supporting sponsors included: Jody Millard Pest Control; American Portables; Matheney, Stees & Associates’ Fred’s Mailboxes & More; and the Chattanooga Mortgage Bankers Association.

“We’d like to give a special thank you to Clay Cochran and Shane Carter of Jody Millard Pest Control for chairing this event. We couldn’t have done it without them,” Blackwell said.
