Junior League of Chattanooga (JLC) next month will host a new fundraiser: the Designer Showhouse. This inaugural event will feature a variety of local design talent at a home on historic Missionary Ridge. Tours will be held Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. beginning June 4.
Proceeds from the event will go toward JLC’s various initiatives. JLC’s primary initiative is Seeds of Change, a program that works to eliminate food deserts in Hamilton County. Food deserts are defined as areas where most residents have low or no access to healthy food. More than 60,000 people are affected by this issue locally.
The Designer Showhouse will take place in a 7,462 square foot estate set on nearly seven acres of land. Each room will feature designs by a different local designer. The public will be able to purchase everything from the furniture to the fixtures featured in each room.
Designer Eda Walldorf, president of Green & Lofty, a local real estate, design, and development company, is creating and installing a bedroom arrangement. Walldorf is implementing principals for sustainable living as she prepares her space. “The design’s materials will be aimed toward repurposed and ecologically sound furnishings, with the majority sourced locally and sustainably,” Walldorf says. “Work and collections from local artists and artisans will be featured, proving an aesthetic that’s both green and distinctively unique to the region.”
John Simpson of Arcadia Restorations will be donating painting services for Walldorf’s installation. Also, Matt “Nooga” Blackwell, a local metal worker and artist, will be crafting the light fixture, Zachary Reynolds of Woodwise will be creating a customized bed from reclaimed materials, and Charley Keplinger of Scenic City Tile & Granite will be donating additional materials.
The design will integrate each of these pieces in a coherent manner that’s synonymous with Green & Lofty’s name, says Walldorf. “The artistic installation will be uplifting and luxurious, with an elegant understated style, transforming a simple bedroom into a memorable and inspiring haven,” she says.
Walldorf is a green designer who has received the U.S. Green Building Council and American Society of Interior Designers’ nationally recognized REGREEN Trained Professional designation. She also received training from the New York School of Interior Design.
