The $2 million Chattanooga State Technical Institute will be built on a 75-acre tract on Amnicola Highway and the Tennessee River donated by J. Frank Harrison, industrialist and civic leader.
Sunday, Nov. 7
William G. Raoul, president of Cavalier Corp., has been named national chairman for the University of Chattanooga 1966 annual giving fund. Dr. LeRoy A. Martin, UC president, said the campaign, which begins Monday, will seek the largest goal in UC’s history - $300,000.
The First Baptist Church met Sunday at its new property on the Golden Gateway for groundbreaking ceremonies. Dr. Luther Joe Thompson, pastor, D.B. Harris, Jr., chairman of the deacons, A.J. Poston, chairman of the building construction committee, and W.A. Redford were on the brief program preceding the ground breaking, in which 113 members with gilded shovels participated.
Monday, Nov. 8
Otis H. Segler was named chairman of Chattanooga’s 1966 Heart Fund Campaign, to be held in February. Other Heart Fund officials will be Miss Betty Mac, TV and radio figure with Station WDEF, who will be Heart Sunday chairman, and Dr. Fred Ballard, Jr., president of the Chattanooga Area Heart Association.
The Gateway Professional Building, a complex of four professional buildings grouped around a landscaped courtyard, is now under construction next to the Downtowner Motel in the Golden Gateway. The $450,000 project contains eight office suites and a paved parking lot. Dr. Frank Green, dentist, is president of the corporation. Tom Caldwell is secretary and treasurer.

The City Commission passed on first reading an ordinance annexing a small section on Tunnel Blvd., formerly a part of the town of Ridgeside, now occupied by the Shepherd Hills Apartments.
Wednesday, Nov. 10
Senator and Mrs. Albert Gore joined Hamilton County Democrats in opening their new office Tuesday in the Dome Building. Weldon Markham, president of the Young Democratic Club, emphasized that the purpose of the club is “service to a united cause.”
A $3.5 million modernization of the fertilizer production facility belonging to Farmers Chemical Assoc., Inc., is underway at Tyner, Edward C. Bingham, Jr., technical assistant to the general manager, announced.
Thursday, Nov. 11
Banks here will distribute $1,147,497, an all-time record amount, to 1965 Christmas Savings Club members, the Chattanooga Clearing House Association reported. Sharing in this amount will be 14,093 members of the club.
Friday, Nov. 12
J. Thomas Mann, Chattanooga attorney and former president of the Hamilton County Tuberculosis Assoc., will be the featured speaker at naturalization ceremonies in U.S. District Court here at 10 a.m. Friday.
The Veterans’ Day memorial service on Patten Parkway, sponsored by the American Legion, Thursday, drew the largest attendance we have ever seen at former observances. Rev. W.E. Walker, American Legion state chaplain, was the featured speaker.
