The University of Chattanooga football team will play its first hard game today at Chamberlain Field. University of Georgia will be the opposing team. UC Coach Johnny Spiegal is confident his team is well-trained and capable of winning.
Sunday, Oct. 10
The UC football team played the most sensational game ever seen here by tying the University of Georgia with a score of 6-6. Capt. Edwin Woodworth in his accurate passing, and Orr and McWhorter in their receiving, were outstanding. A large crowd attended the game.
Mrs. Frank B. Quackenboss and baby will return today from a visit in Memphis, Tenn.
Miss Bessie Oehmig is in Cincinnati visiting Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Oehmig, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Oehmig entertained in honor of Miss Oehmig and Mrs. Oehmig’s sister, Miss Leuna Daniel, who will be married Friday.
Monday, Oct. 11
Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Olney will return today to New Orleans after a visit with Dr. and Mrs. W.G. Bogart.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bryan have moved to town from their summer home on Walden’s Ridge.
Tuesday, Oct. 12
City Attorney Frank Carden has gone to Nashville to attend the state meeting of the Equalization Board. He will represent Chattanooga and Hamilton County.
The Holston Conference made unexpected changes here today. Rev. P.L. Cobb becomes presiding elder of Knoxville, and Rev. N.M. Watson, a former Knoxville pastor, will succeed Rev. Cobb here. Rev. W.H. Brigg goes to St. Elmo.
Misses Helen Wright, Mary Belle Thomas, Annette Peeples, and Katherine Betts, and Messrs. Clifford A. Betts, Edwyn McMillin, Wallace Dupre, Key Ragon, Lewis Gibson, and Frank Caldwell, have returned from a weekend stay at Oak Lodge.
Wednesday, Oct. 13
Mr. Ed McCallie, who has been quite ill in a hospital in Hangchua, China, has gone to Japan to recuperate.
Dr. and Mrs. Willard Steele will go to Lebanon, Tenn., this week. Dr. Steel will go on to Chicago from there.
The merger of the Bank of Commerce and Savings Co. and the Commercial Bank and Trust Co., agreed upon by the stockholders of both banks, will become effective Monday. It will be known as Bank of Commerce. C.L. Knoedler will be president. The bank is capitalized at $160,000.
Thursday, Oct. 14
Mr. and Mrs. Hal Wiltse have purchased a home at 312 Duncan Avenue.
The North Chattanooga Book Club met with Mrs. W.S. Knox yesterday. The program was on socialism. Mrs. H.F. Carbaugh, Sr., gave a good paper on socialism’s “Schools and Ideas.” Mrs. Lester Walker’s subject was socialism’s “Progress and Influence.” The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J.N. Dicks.
Friday, Oct. 15
Mrs. Blackwood Patterson of Virginia is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. E. T. Newell. Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Wilson of Natchez, Miss., who have also been their guests, will return home today.
