Council will consider 11 applicants in second panel for judge opening

Eleven attorneys have applied in a second round of interviews for the Hamilton County Criminal Court judge position that became vacant June 1 upon the retirement of the Hon. Rebecca Stern.

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments previously met on April 9 and considered seven applicants, three of whom were submitted to Gov. Bill Haslam for his consideration. Pursuant to an executive order signed last fall, the governor requested the Council submit a second panel of three nominees for his consideration.

The applicants are: Christian J. Coder, Chattanooga; Tracy Cox, Signal Mountain; Amanda B. Dunn, Chattanooga; Ardena Juanita Garth, Chattanooga; Thomas Clifton Greenholtz, Ooltewah; Andrea DeFay Hayduk, Signal Mountain; Robert Dee Hobbs, Chattanooga; John Gary McDougal, Soddy Daisy; Yolanda Echols Mitchell, Ooltewah; Stevie Nicole Phillips, Chattanooga; and Samuel F. Robinson III, Signal Mountain.

The Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments will interview all qualified applicants starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 23 at The Chattanoogan Hotel. The meeting will include a public hearing, during which members of the public may express any objections to any applicant. The interview will be open to the public as well.

The council is expected to make their selections immediately following the interviews and forward the names to Gov. Bill Haslam for his consideration. The governor can select from either of the two panels.

The first panel consist of Mike A. Little, deputy public defender, district public defender’s office, 11th Judicial District; Leslie Anne Longshore, assistant district attorney, sex crimes unit, Hamilton County District Attorney’s office; and Boyd M. Patterson, Jr., assistant district attorney general, 11th Judicial District.
