‘Shark Tank’ star endorses local Realtor Charlotte Mabry

Charlotte Mabry knows a thing or two about selling houses. Her clients, which number in the hundreds per year, know this better than anyone. Now she’s proving she’s just as good at selling herself.

A new television commercial airing locally features Mabry and one other face known to millions of people across the country: that of “Shark Tank” entrepreneur Barbara Corcoran.

Mabry traveled to New York City this month to film the commercial with the real estate mogul. She is one of about 20 top agents from around the country who have secured an endorsement for their services from Cocoran.

Mabry is known for her creative marketing strategies, which help to sell homes faster than

the average days on market. She’s also made a name for herself through her real estate-themed talk show that airs Saturday mornings on WGOW. But Mabry says her ties with a key marketing partner made the Corcoran endorsement possible.

“I have a good friend in San Diego who helps me with a lot of the things I do on radio and TV,” she says. “He’s been in radio and television marketing for years, and he had an opportunity to hook me up.”

Mabry didn’t hesitate to meet with Cocoran and talk with her about the endorsement. While Mabry has received the support of other nationally known personalities, Corcoran made her fame and fortune in real estate, giving more weight to her endorsement of Mabry’s services.

“She’s very particular about who she endorses,” Mabry says. “But she feels comfortable suggesting people use me.”

Mabry did more than secure Corcoran’s endorsement; she also received business advice from the “Shark Tank” star.

“One of the struggles I’ve had is learning to choose the right people for my team,” Mabry says. “Barbara emphasized the importance of getting the right person in each seat.”

Mabry has more in common with Corcoran than a knack for selling real estate; both can lay claim to big things coming out of small beginnings. The “Shark Tank” star turned a $1,000 loan into a business empire. Similarly, Mabry started out 29 years ago as a single agent working under the tutelage of Tom Cannon at Coldwell Banker, and today is a co-owner of Keller Williams Downtown and the head of a team of 17 agents and staff members that are homing in on closing a listing a day.

“I’m a miniature Keller Williams,” she says. “I’m a company within a company.”

While Mabry wears many hats as the leader of her team, she remains focused on her core strength –marketing. “A single agent has many responsibilities. But the Good Lord didn’t make me that capable,” she says, laughing. “So I do what I’m good at, which is marketing properties, and my team members do everything else. They’re amazing.”

Mabry hasn’t let her ties with Corcoran go to her head. Although she has the endorsement of the well known multi-millionaire, she’s just as excited about the support of her radio pals at WGOW. “I have endorsements from the sports talk guys,” she says. “I’ve sold several houses for Gary Haskew, and Scott (McMahen) was a student of mine when I taught music at Hixson Elementary School.”

Twenty-nine years after setting up shop in a Coldwell Banker office in a Sears store at Northgate Mall, Mabry has more name recognition than ever. She says this is merely because she’s outlived everyone. The truth might not be as funny as her quip about her longevity, but it does speak to what is really important in any business: People know Mabry, and continue to ask her to serve their real estate needs, not because of the ringing endorsements of national celebrities but because of what her clients here in Chattanooga say about her. While Corcoran’s endorsement is an honor, this is where Mabry’s true wealth lies.
