Sunday, Feb. 21
Vacant lots will be rented by the City Federation of School Improvement League for the use of children living in apartments and who have no space for a backyard garden. This is being promoted by the Department of Education. Mrs. R.C. Sauls, president of the league, announced that steps will be taken to start the project immediately. Mrs. I.V. Uller of Highland Park will superintend the activities.
Monday, Feb. 22
Brooke Brantley left Friday for Albuquerque, New Mexico to enter a technical school.
Mrs. R.B. Davenport, Mrs. S.D. McReynolds, and Misses Willie and Margaret Davenport will attend the Panama Exposition in San Francisco.
Tuesday, Feb. 23
An important contract was let today for the construction of the first new Baylor School building, which will be erected at the foot of Signal Mountain. Edwards and Frankhouse have received the contract for the brickwork, which will be Key-James ornamental shale.
Wednesday, Feb. 24
Miss Gussie Bates, daughter of Creed F. Bates of Chattanooga, acted as postmaster for a friend who lives in London and wished to get a personal letter to a relative in Vienna. She mailed the letter to Miss Bates, who re-mailed the letter with U.S. stamps to Vienna, as war-time restrictions would not allow the letter to be mailed from London.
Miss Ruth Mills of Spring City is the guest of Miss Mary Belle Thomas in Highland Park.
Thursday, Feb. 25
Mr. and Mrs. John T. Jones of Huntsville, Ala. , announced the marriage of their daughter, Vivian Elmore, to Mr. Bradley Morrah March 11 at the First Baptist Church. Mr. Morrah is connected with Amour and Co. in Chattanooga.
Mr. and Mrs. F.G. Stauffer celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary with a dinner party. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. John A. Patten, Rev. and Mrs. Leonard Swisher, Mr. and Mrs. L.S. Perry, Miss Ruth Perry, and Leslie Stauffer.
Friends of Miss Katherine Lilly, former Chattanoogan, will be interested to hear that she is head nurse of surgery at the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research, and will sail for France to assist Dr. Alexis Carrel in the hospitals at Lyons and Compiegne. She will be in charge of 100 patients.
Friday, Feb. 26
A most important meeting will be held in Chattanooga to promote a great highway from Chicago and Indianapolis through the South. Delegates will represent Louisville, Nashville, Atlanta, Macon, and Jacksonville. Chattanooga is vitally interested in the project.
Miss Dorothea Snodgrass and Miss Louise Spears will go to Norfolk, Va., to visit Lt. and Mrs. Oscar Spears.
