Chattanooga Big Brothers Association, which has helped more than 400 boys since it was organized in 1956, will observe “Big Brothers Week” beginning Sunday, Irvin J. Richmond, executive director, announced. A recruiting drive for 100 additional Big Brothers to participate in the Chattanooga program will be an important part of the week’s activities.

The University of Chattanooga has been awarded a $5,000 grant by E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. as part of its annual program of aid to education and basic research. Robert Kasey, manager of Du Pont’s Chattanooga nylon plant, presented the check to Dr. Leroy A. Martin, UC president.
Monday, Jan. 11
Plans to construct a new building for Chattanooga’s Alhambra Shrine on the south bank of the Tennessee River were announced Monday by Harold E. Brown, potentate. The $348,500 structure will face a proposed roadway connecting downtown with Riverside Drive.
The Krystal Co. is remodeling its home office building at the corner of Seventh and Cherry Streets at an estimated cost of $150,000. The project is part of a $430,000 expansion program which includes the construction of two new Krystal restaurants in Chattanooga.

The City Commission Tuesday approved the appointments of D.D. Coleman, East Brainerd pharmacist, and the Rev. H.H. Battle, minister, as members of the city school board, effective Feb. 15.
L.D. Harden, assistant planning director of Hartford, Conn., has been named executive director of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission effective Jan. 18, Judge Chester Frost and Mayor Ralph Kelley announced.
Wednesday, Jan. 13
The Tennessee Panorama, a colorful and interesting mobile tourist promotion trailer, is visiting Chattanooga. It will be in Zayre parking lot daily through Saturday, and at Eastgate next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thursday, Jan. 14
The City School Board Wednesday approved three special programs designed to help functionally illiterate persons from rural backgrounds who have no vocational skills and teachers who encounter special problems as the result of teaching desegrated schools.
The City Commission has agreed to employ Frank L. Cross, Jr., of Jacksonville as chief of the Bureau of Air Pollution and Water Inspection effective Feb. 1, Mayor Kelley announced Wednesday.

Brainerd High School, which won 10 of 11 football games during its 1964 season, was given a national award by the Gridiron Champs of America, Associated Sports Press, Springfield, Ore., Thursday night at the school’s banquet.
