Miss Ruth Richmond made her debut Friday night at the Patten Hotel in a brilliant ball given by her mother, Mrs. Edward Gould Richmond. Two hundred and fifty guests attended. Mrs. Richmond was assisted in receiving by close friends.
Wisdom Goree has returned to his home in Atlanta after a visit with his cousin, Brook Brantly, on Missionary Ridge.
Miss Wessie Bowen will leave Monday to return to Randolph Macon College in Virginia.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Kerr announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Margaret, to Mr. Lon DeKalb Worsham. The wedding will take place Feb. 10. Mr. Worsham is from a prominent North Georgia family,
Engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Olgar Czarowski to Mr. Louis Leach has been announced. She is the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. A. Czarnowski of New Orleans. Mr. Leach is a well-known young Chattanoogan connected with W.F. Fischer & Brothers Jewelry Store.

Miss Sarah Betterton was hostess to a group of 24 friends for a “500” party, Saturday at her home in Park Place.
Miss Emily Miller is visiting her sister, Mrs. Oscar Handley, and Miss Katherine Varnell in Knoxville.
Tuesday, Jan. 5
Mrs. C.E. Buck entertained for Miss Flora Loveman Monday with a luncheon at her home on Missionary Ridge.
Mrs. J.C. Carmack and daughter, Katherine, of Missionary Ridge have returned from a visit with relatives in Nashville.
The sales force, sales managers, factory superintendents, and others connected with the Brock Candy Co. were guests at a dinner at the Hotel Patten given by Mr. W. E. Brock and members of the company.
Wednesday, Jan. 6
Announcement was made by the Industrial Board of the Chamber of Commerce of the arrangements for the establishment of a new factory, the American Manufacturing Co., for manufacturing shovels. J.B. Robinson is president of the company, which will turn out 50 dozen complete shovels a day with a payroll of $75,000 per annum.
Miss Amelie Dickert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.S. Dickert, was married to Frank D. Hancock Tuesday by Dr. T.S. McCallie in his study. Mr. and Mrs. Hancock’s marriage was the culmination of a high school romance. The young couple left on the Royal Palm for their wedding trip. Mr. Hancock is connected with the James Supply Co.
Little Peggy Kruesi is in Washington with her grandmother, Mrs. J.P. Smartt, who’s visiting Mrs. Richard Austin. Mr. Paul Kruesi, who is in New York, will accompany his daughter, Peggy, home on his return.
Thursday, Jan. 7
Mrs. D.Y. Grieb of Missionary Ridge accompanied her mother, Mrs. J.P. Adams of Ohio, to Florida for a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Grayson have returned from Washington, D.C. where they have been visiting Mrs. Grayson’s sister, Mrs. Orra Moore.
Mayor T.C. Thompson called a meeting of all physicians of Chattanooga to attend a conference at 1:30 this afternoon at his office about establishing a new contagion hospital and selecting a site. Several more deaths have been reported from the small pox epidemic. Twenty-four businessmen and physicians attended the meeting.
Friday, Jan. 8
Prep school basketball season opens today. Central plays McCallie. City High plays Baylor at the Armory Saturday night. There are many sore-armed athletes, as many have been vaccinated lately.
A 10-acre tract in Citico has been purchased from Capt. H.S. Chamberlain to build the new Contagious Disease Hospital. It will be a substantial structure costing about $15,000. The acreage is near old Citico Furnace and costs $19,000. v
