Organizers of the Chattanooga Congregational Church held their first public meeting last night in the Chamber of Commerce assembly room. Herbert W. Boal was chairman of the meeting. Other leaders were C.W. Lawrence, G.R. Barnes, Jr., J.M. Gager, Harry C. Piper, Frank L. Humphrey, A.M. Jones, Paul W. Shepherd, Misses Lucile Pyott, and Annie Street.

Misses Josephine Turner and Gloria Lamb, W.T. Green, Jr., and Ben Taylor returned yesterday from Somerville, where they spent Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Lowry Lamb.

Miss Louise Keith of Athens, who has been visiting Misses Bessie and Sadie Magill, will go today to be the guest of Mrs. J.B. Frazier.

Sunday, Nov. 29

Miss Lucy Montague entertained the Saturday Bridge Circle yesterday at the Country Club. Miss Margaret Thomasson won the prize. Mrs. Thomas Scrutchins and Miss Alice Stafford were the invited guests.

Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Lupton will give a dance Dec. 11 at their home honoring Misses Bessie Lodor and Louise Llewellyn.

Mrs. E.B. Craig will come from Nashville this week to be the guest of Mrs. M.M. Allison and attend the Williamson-Frierson wedding.

Monday, Nov. 30

A reception will be given Tuesday night for Dr. and Mrs. W.F. Powell at the First Baptist Church.

Irving Reilly, Jr., is home from Georgia Tech.

Miss Marie Fowler of Macon came Saturday to be the guest of Miss Mary Steward. Paul Steward has been removed to his home from Erlanger Hospital.

Tuesday, Dec. 1

Judge Martin Fleming presided over the police court yesterday after an absence of several weeks due to illness. He disposed of the lightest Monday morning docket for many months.

Mrs. Joe Caldwell entertained the following guests at luncheon yesterday at her home on Lookout Mountain: Mesdames C.A. Lyerly, W.J. Nixon, O.B. Andrews, Jesse Litleton, and J.B. Pound.

Miss Margaret McCallie is home from Agnes Scott College for a few days.

Wednesday, Dec. 2

Mrs. H. Clay Evans will entertain with a luncheon next week for Misses Louise Llewellyn and Elise Chapin.

Mrs. R.T. Faucette was hostess to the Bridge Club yesterday at her home on Oak Street. Mrs. T.H. Cooke will be the next hostess.

Mr. and Mrs. Vance Alexander and Miss Annette Baxter will come from Nashville to visit Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Spears during the holidays.

Thursday, Dec. 3

Miss Sarah Blair and Mr. Ralph Wesley Dwight were married yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock at the First Baptist Church. Mrs. G.M. Smartt, presiding at the organ, rendered the nuptial music. The bride is a popular young Chattanoogan, active in social and church affairs. Mr. Dwight is connected with the engineering department of Walsh & Weidner.

Confederate veterans will figure prominently in the Cotton Ball to be given Friday night at Hotel Patten under the auspices of the Gen. A.P. Stewart. Capt. J.F. Shipp and Col. Ed Watkins will be the doorkeepers. A.W. Chambliss will present the prizes.

Mrs. Lora French Jenks has returned home after a visit to Miss Addie Williams in Memphis. Mrs. Jenks is with Dr. and Mrs. French at their home on Missionary Ridge.

Friday, Dec. 4

Determined men from the Tennessee River Valley, led again by John A. Patten, are going to storm Washington next week in a battle for appropriations to make the big river navigable the year round and to develop further electric power possibilities.

Dr. and Mrs. George R. West celebrated the 25th anniversary of their marriage last night with a family dinner.

Miss Dorothea Lynde will return next week after a visit in Decatur, Ill.

Dr. and Mrs. H.M. Evans of Valparaiso, Ind., will arrive to attend the Evans-Glover wedding. Frank Witherspoon of Nashville will also attend the wedding.
