Joe V. McLaughlin was re-elected president of the Mountain City Club by unanimous vote at the 75th annual meeting Friday night. Richard A. Brock was elected vice-president; Alf J. Law, secretary; and Harry R. White, treasurer.

Sunday, Nov. 22

An estimated 5,000 employees, along with friends and members of their families, attended an open house and tour Saturday at the Chattanooga Division of Combustion Engineering, Inc. The tour included the new super-heater plant and the two new nuclear bays, the two major features in the $10-million expansion program.

T.A. Lupton, Jr., Friday announced plans for a 50-lot subdivision adjacent to the $3-million Continental apartment building on a hilltop facing Hixson Pike.

Monday, Nov. 23

An 80-unit Howard Johnson Motor Lodge and Restaurant and a service station costing an estimated $1.1 million were proposed to the Chattanooga Housing Authority Monday for the two parcels in the Golden Gateway on the south side of West Ninth Street, immediately west of the freeway.

Tuesday, Nov. 24

Chattanooga’s proposed project under the Neighborhood Youth Corps program of the Economic Opportunities Act has been approved in Washington, it was announced Tuesday, and an early start was predicted here. Chattanooga will receive $810,000 toward the total cost of $925,000 through next June 30 for the program to be operated under the direction of the Chattanooga Board of Education.

Wednesday, Nov. 25

The City Commission Tuesday adopted a resolution authorizing Mayor Kelley to purchase property on Dodds Avenue for the development by the board of education of a service center. The property on Dodds Avenue, consisting of 10 acres, is owned by the Williams & Voris Lumber Co.

Thursday, Nov. 26

Zan Guerry and Chip Healy, two Baylor schoolboys, were named Athletes of the Year Tuesday night at the second annual banquet sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Guerry was the youngest ever to win the state tennis championship at 15 last summer, and Healy was nominated in two sports: tennis and football.

Southern Bell Telephone Company has announced that Mr. Kenneth R. Pettitt has been appointed central office supervisor in Chattanooga.Saturday, Nov. 21
