A portrait of U.S. District Judge Curtis L. Collier was unveiled Oct. 10 during a ceremony at the Joel W. Solomon Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse.

The ceremony preceded Judge Collier’s transition to senior status Nov. 1 after 19 years as a U.S. district judge.

The Third Floor Courtroom was filled to capacity with fellow judges, family members, friends, and past law clerks, many of whom now live across the U.S.

The artist, Jamie Lee McMahan, also was present, and members of the Choo Choo Chorus performed “God Bless America.”

After several speakers shared kind thoughts about the judge, he in turn told the audience, “This is a season in my life when a higher authority has come calling. That authority is Father Time. In the courtroom of life, he always wins, and there is no appeal for his decisions. I am embracing that season.”
