Blood Assurance Donor Appreciation Day

Friday, Oct. 10

Blood Assurance will host a donor appreciation day at its Erlanger and Downtown Chattanooga blood centers on Friday, Oct. 10. Special prizes, food, and recognition of top area donors will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at each location. The Erlanger blood center is located at 975 East Third Street, inside Erlanger Hospital, near elevator F. The Downtown Chattanooga blood center is located at 705 East Fourth Street, across from McKenzie Arena.

Photographic Society open house

Thursday, Oct. 16 – NEW TIME

The Photographic Society of Chattanooga will hold its annual open house with special guest Vinny Colucci on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. (This is one hour earlier than previously announced.) Colucci has been an active photographer since 1979, and shooting professionally since 1995. His images have been published in books and magazines, and he presents nature and wildlife photography workshops throughout the year. The program will begin at 7 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church Gym, located at 3921 Murray Hills Drive in Chattanooga. Visitors are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Visionary Parenting

Tuesday, Oct. 21

First Things First and Silverdale Baptist Academy will present “Visionary Parenting” with author Rob Rienow on Tuesday, Oct. 21. This event will be held at Silverdale Baptist Academy, located at 7236 Bonny Oaks Drive, from 7 to 9 p.m. The seminar is designed to encourage parents and equip them with the skills to pass along good moral character to their children. There is no cost to attend the seminar, but you must preregister online at firstthings.org or by calling (423) 267-5383.

Frightening A** Film Festival

Friday, Oct. 31

Mise En Scenesters have announced the line-up for its fourth annual Frightening A** Film Festival, scheduled to take place Friday, Oct. 31 from 7:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Films will include: local shorts; “The Demon’s Rook”; “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary,” with a pre-film intro by “Leatherface” director Jeff Burr; and “The Babadook.” Live music by White Reaper and Soocro, stand-up comedy by Evatt & Bloom, and a costume contest will round out the festivities. Rock City’s Enchanted MAiZE

Through Nov. 2

Rock City’s Enchanted MAiZE is now open at Blowing Springs Farm every Thursday through Sunday through Nov. 2. Back for its 13th season, this fall’s new maze design is a crop circle that holds a hidden code visitors can break by going to Rock City’s social media pages for clues. The Critter Corral returns Fridays through Sundays with rabbits, donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, a miniature Scottish Highland Cow, a mini-horse, and more. Tickets include the maze, a hayride, the cow train, the Coca-Cola Playground, corn slingshots, the Critter Corral, and the pumpkin maze.
