The AEGIS Law Enforcement Foundation of Greater Chattanooga will host its 4th annual luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Chattanoogan Hotel. The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Mike Mears, CIA leadership consultant and trainer for government and private sector organizations.
“Our goal with the AEGIS Law Enforcement Foundation is to provide our local law enforcement with the best tools and resources available so they may continue preserving the safety of Hamilton County,” said AEGIS’s Executive Director Tom Edd Wilson. “We look forward to hearing from Mike Mears ... as he shares his experiences with our local law enforcement and business community.”
Mears, a consultant to intelligence community senior leaders, applies his training from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and his MBA from Harvard Business School together with his years of real world experience to provide entertaining public speeches as well as organizational training to business leaders and law enforcement officers throughout the U.S. He also founded and led the CIA Leadership Academy and retired as the Chief of Human Capital in 2006.
Prior to joining the CIA, Mears was senior vice president at GE investments, where he served as a turnaround specialist and a Six Sigma Black Belt while managing private equity funds. He has also launched 11 small business start-ups and was president of a fast food company. Mears served as commander of a nuclear missile site, a general’s aide, and as a U.S. Army combat platoon leader in Vietnam, where he was decorated for valor. Mears is also the author of “Leadership Elements: A Guide To Building Trust.”
At the luncheon, Mears will speak on ways to embrace cultural change in the community, with particular emphasis on bringing together local law enforcement and the business community.

AEGIS was formed in 2011 by Sheriff Jim Hammond and has since grown into a partnership between Hamilton County businesses and members of the law enforcement community. Its board consists of business leaders Bob McKamey, Henry Luken, Emerson E. Russell, Sr., and Greg A. Vital, all of Hamilton County. Its advisory board consists of the seven police chiefs in Hamilton County and the Hamilton County Sheriff, who assist in the decision making process for how the organizations funds are used.
