Holy Grout Renew

Do It Yourself

If you are anything like me, more times than you can count, you have struggled to get your grout in your home clean.

I have researched and experimented so many methods of cleaning grout it is exhausting. I was skimming the Internet recently, and came across a DIY blog that had a post about Polyblend Grout Renew. Intrigued, I continued reading.

Polyblend Grout Renew is a water-based, acrylic, urethane stain, and sealer all in one. Grout Renew provides a way to instantly renew and completely change the color if you choose. The product seals against stains while it changes the color of your grout. It also comes in 48 fabulous colors you can choose from to complement your space. I was beyond thrilled to learn about this product, and after doing my research on people who had used the product; I could not wait to try it.

One of my customers I work for had previously mentioned they needed something done with the grout in their home, so I felt this would be the perfect opportunity to test out this product.

Polyblend Grout Renew is affordable for every budget. At Home Depot it will run you $11.95 per bottle. After choosing the color I needed, I bought small craft brushes. I felt like I could have more control over the paint with a small stiff paintbrush than I would with a toothbrush which is what the directions state to use. I have seen people use both, so choose whichever method you are more comfortable with using.

To start, I lightly scrubbed the area with a cleaning agent to clean the tile and grout very well. After the floor dried, I went right in to painting the grout lines. It is very tedious and time consuming, but extremely easy; a child could easily help you do this. The bottle states to make sure you do not allow the paint to get on the tile and if it does then wipe it off immediately. I, being impatient and knowing paint comes off tile very easily, was not too concerned about it. Working in large sections I painted the grout, and then went back and cleaned the excess off the tile.

Polyblend Grout Renew does everything it says it will do. The homeowner was thrilled with the results. The newly painted grout changed the entire look in this house. It looked as if she had retiled the space.

The space I painted was approximately 600 sq. ft. and I used one bottle. Once you have finished, the space will be ready for light traffic in two to four hours and normal traffic in 24 hours. I did opt to seal it separately even though I met someone who said after three years hers still looks the exactly same as it did the day she painted it. I used extra protection since I knew this was a heavy traffic area.

So, if you have been scrubbing and sweating to get that grout clean, worry no more. For a cool $12 dollars, you can renew all of your grout to make it look brand new.
