River City Roundabout

The Ice Cream Show, at the Southside end of the Walnut Street Bridge, has been open since 2009 and offers ice cream and coffee drinks. Their popular winter drinks include Mexican hot chocolate, eggnog lattes and Chai lattes. - Erica Tuggle
Let’s go to the show …
New Year’s resolutions are a great thing. They allow us a sort of “do-over” on our backslidings of the past year and a chance to change for the better. Yet, these resolutions are just as hard to keep in the new year sometimes because we go into them too strictly and are thus doomed to fail. This is why little treats like those from “The Ice Cream Show” are good to indulge upon to keep resolutions palatable.
The Ice Cream Show op-ened on May 5, 2009 at the Southside end of the Walnut Street Bridge. This little shop is situated below, and beside the Museum Bluff Condos where the owners live. Ice Cream Show offers not only the treats of gourmet frozen yogurt and ice cream, but also gourmet coffee, tea and hot drinks. The cold treats are custom blended with yogurt, ice cream or sugar free varieties from Mayfield Dairy. The 40 different ingredients they have to add to these bases make for a possibility of 17,000 different flavor combinations.
Imagine the possibilities! You can have blackberries and cheesecake pieces in vanilla ice cream. (Make that sugar free ice cream if your resolution concerns the waistline.) There are chocolates of all kinds like M&M’s, Snickers, Reese’s Pieces and Oreos to add. Many different kinds of fruits are there to combine, such as pineapple and banana, strawberries or cherries, apricots and others. If you want to add a crunch, add in peanuts, almonds, macadamia nuts or all of the above.
For the record, here’s what they have: Peanut butter, Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, marshmallow, almonds, pecans, walnuts, macadamia nuts, pistachio nuts, milk chocolate, thin mint, pretzel, Kahlua, rum, amaretto, Irish cream, coffee, cake mix, graham crackers, malt, vanilla wafers, peanuts, coconut, peppermint, white chocolate, sprinkles, peanut butter cups, Snickers pieces, Butterfinger, Heath bar, brownie, M&M’s, Whoppers, orange, peach, pineapple, black cherry, blackberry, mango, red raspberry, blueberry and strawberry.
Yet, as tempting as it may be, getting all these wouldn’t be advisable. It is recommended to choose three for the best flavor possible.
After that, all you need to choose is either a bowl or a waffle cone. These waffle cones are made fresh in the store, which adds a wonderful smell to the place while you wait.
There are many options if you want a hot picker-upper instead. The eggnog latte is a great holdover from the holidays if cold treats are too cold during these months. The espresso within is not too strong or bitter with the eggnog, and the creaminess of the drink will keep you full and warm if you decide to walk the Southside or cross the bridge with your drink.
There’s also a unique drink they offer called “Mexican Hot Chocolate.” This drink starts out as the traditional and beloved heated chocolate drink, but added into the mix is cinnamon, vanilla extract and/or chili powder. The combination of these ingredients with the chocolate gives it a kick that will have your mouth as warm as your tummy. Ice Cream Show also boasts the “world’s best coffee,” from Sumner, Wa. It’s certainly worth a try, and if you get an ice cream cone to go with it, a cup of coffee is only99 cents more.
Even though the weather is cold and frightful sometimes during these last few winter months, ice cream is never a bad idea with all the selection that The Ice Cream Show offers. I suggest having a hot drink in one hand and a cold waffle cone in the other. This type of balance will be sure to counter whatever resolution you have made for the year for a little splurge time.
The Ice Cream Show location near the Walnut Street Bridge is where most people know the Ice Cream Show from, but now they have another location located on the South side of the Market Street Bridge beside Genghis Grill and Cheeburger Cheeburger. This location is a walk-up window so that when the weather is warm, patrons can quickly grab their cone and go on to enjoy the downtown atmosphere.
The Ice Cream Show is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, they are open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday they are open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Winter hours vary, and the Ice Cream Show will sometimes close early if the weather is bad. There is also an opportunity to save at the Ice Cream Show. Access their Web site at www.theicecreamshow.com and print off a $1 off coupon on an Ice Cream or gourmet coffee with a purchase of $4 or more.
