The Chattanooga Bar Association has donated the proceeds of its inaugural Lawyers Have Heart 5K and 1-Mile Walk to Chattanooga Endeavors, a nonprofit that provides training, counseling and support services to former offenders.

The CBA held the 5K in memory of Mike Anderson, an attorney with Patrick, Beard, Schulman & Jacoway who died Jan. 22, 2019, after suffering a heart attack while running with his colleagues.

“Anderson was a strong supporter of Chattanooga Endeavors,” says CBA Immediate Past President Jeffrey Maddux, “and it was an honor to provide the organization with what we could to help them continue their efforts.”

“Mike was given a second chance and became involved with Chattanooga Endeavors to encourage its participants to use their second chance to do something good,” adds CBA board member Ellie Hill. “He often spoke at Chattanooga Endeavors graduations about his struggles and accomplishments, so when we decided to host the inaugural race in memory of Mike, it made sense to have it benefit Chattanooga Endeavors – a cause near to his heart.”

The proceeds from the Lawyers Have Heart 5K totaled $3,500.
