The McMahan Law Firm is giving back to the Chattanooga community through its Go to Bat Scholarship for students attending or planning to attend a college or university in Tennessee.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded based on an essay contest.

“We love the Chattanooga area, but we know there are things we can do better as a community,” says Brent Burks, partner at McMahan Law. “One of those things is support education. That’s why we launched this scholarship.”

The Going to Bat Scholarship will award a $1,000 scholarship to the winning essay.

“Tell us what you’ll go to bat for,” challenges Jay Kennamar, partner at McMahan Law. “What cause, organization or point of view are you most passionate about and why?”

This scholarship is for students who have been accepted to or are currently attending a two- or four-year college or university in Tennessee.

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade-point average. The essay must be no less than 500 words and no more than 750 words.

The application deadline is April 30. The winner will be chosen the week of May 17 through 21.

McMahan Law is a Chattanooga-based firm focused on personal injury, Social Security and Tennessee workers’ compensation cases.
