Chambliss Law promotes Stephen Adams to shareholder

Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel has elected registered patent attorney Stephen Adams as a shareholder of the firm.

“Stephen is an all-star attorney,” says Mark Cunningham, president and managing shareholder. “When he came to the firm several years ago, he brought experience and a work ethic we knew would provide significant growth.

“I’m confident he’ll continue to lead and succeed as a shareholder of the firm and will help push us forward in a number of positive ways.”

Adams is a member of Chambliss’ intellectual property service group, where he counsels clients on matters related to patents, trademarks and copyright preparation and prosecution, as well as intellectual property maintenance, defense and enforcement.

His diverse clientele ranges from entrepreneurs, inventors and startups to small and large corporations, governmental entities and universities.

He also advises clients across a wide variety of industries, including health care, strength and conditioning, entertainment, manufacturing and renewable energy.

Adams frequently speaks and writes on matters related to intellectual property law and provides virtual and in-person training sessions for company stakeholders.

Additionally, as a member of Chambliss Startup Group, he works with early innovators on a variety of matters related to protecting their business as it grows, including filing for trademark and patent protection, implementing trade secret safeguards, drafting and reviewing contracts with vendors and employees, and other initial business concerns.

Beyond his practice, Adams regularly volunteers for Co.Lab’s legal office hours and is active in Startup Week Chattanooga and other startup programming.

He also serves on the firm’s diversity committee and summer associate recruitment committee.

“Stephen is a talented intellectual property attorney,” says Paul Weidlich, intellectual property chair. “The success he’s had with clients in cutting-edge technologies is impressive. Working with Stephen has welcomed new capabilities to the team that benefit our clients and our firm.”

Adams has been included in Best Lawyers in America and Mid-South Super Lawyers for several years. In 2020, the Tennessee Bar Association selected him to participate in its Leadership Law Program.

He is also a member of the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association, the Chattanooga Technology Council board of directors, the ChaTech Early Innovators Award selection committee and the Tennessee PATENTS Pro Bono Assistance Program.

Adams holds a degree in mechanical engineering and a juris doctor, both from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Before joining Chambliss, he was a shareholder with an intellectual property boutique firm located in Knoxville.

Adams is a licensed member of the Tennessee Bar and is also licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
