Artists respond to COVID-19 with art and letters for health care workers

Erlanger Health Care Workers receive cards local artists made to thank them for their work during the COVID-19 crisis.

A new Mark Making initiative is offering stipends to professional artists to create cards for workers at Erlanger Health System and CHI Memorial. An anonymous donation is funding the project, which is called “Love Notes to Front Liners.”

Artists who have contributed cards include Amanda Brazier, Shea Brill, Randy Fairchild, Robin Howe, Judy Jasinski, Frances McDonald, Cindy Procious and David Riall. Erika Blackman wrote a poem of gratitude for the cards.

Mark Making has distributed nearly 100 cards to Erlanger staff. “These personalized cards touched the hearts of our staff,” says Jan Keys, chief nurse executive of Erlanger Health System.

Howe, a painter who lives in Signal Mountain, says the project has felt like gift for her as much as for the health care workers. “Until this project was initiated, I felt helpless, as I wanted to be a part of the healing process. ‘Love Notes to Front Liners’ has opened a path support these amazing and dedicated workers.”

Professional artists who want to be part of the project can email frances@markmaking.org.
