Rare Bible exhibit opens at Southern Adventist University

Southern Adventist University is launching a new historical exhibit titled “From Script to Scripture: The History of the Bible.”

Open to the public beginning Wednesday, Jan. 15, it features more than 80 books and works of art, including a leaf from the first Bible printed in North America and a Breeches Bible that was brought over on the Mayflower.

This free exhibit, housed in the Lynn H. Wood Archaeological Museum, traces the history of printing the Bible and explores the innovations of the alphabet, the printing press and modern technology.

The exhibit features original historical Bibles, such as a 1535 pre-reformation French Bible, the Gutenberg Bible, a complete 1611 King James Bible and the art that played an important role in illustrating biblical themes.

Visitors can also stand in front of a replica of the Wittenberg doors and read an original printing of Luther’s 95 Theses, which sparked the Protestant Reformation.
