Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy recognized as Reward School

Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy has earned recognition as a 2019 Reward School in the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System, says the Tennessee Department of Education.

Based on data the TDE gathered during the 2018-2019 school year, this commendation distinguishes CGLA as a school that excelled in both academic proficiency and academic growth.

CGLA will host a celebration to acknowledge this achievement Friday, Aug. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in Hutton Gymnasium. The public is invited to attend.

The TDE assesses academic proficiency and academic growth to understand how a school is serving its students. Academic proficiency determines whether or not a student has mastered the skills and knowledge deemed essential to a particular subject.

Academic growth is a benchmark known as the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System, which evaluates whether or not a student is progressing toward proficiency. Specifically, academic growth is a series of assessments to gauge whether or not a student is actually learning and moving forward.

Dr. Elaine Swafford, CEO of CGLA, acknowledges the hard work and commitment of the faculty and students at the school. “Our teachers are exemplary and fully dedicated to the school’s mission. They believe every student is capable of learning, and as evidenced by these achievements, they are advancing students toward success.

“Education is a complex endeavor requiring us to be firmly focused on achievement yet nimble enough that we accelerate learning for all students. If proficiency is the destination, then growth is the journey.”
