The Mad Priest has earned its green|light certification from green|spaces. The green|light program focuses on small to large organizations throughout Chattanooga and the surrounding area that are interested in improving their social and environmental impacts.
A trifecta of brick-and-mortars, Mad Priest encompasses an espresso bar on Broad Street, an all-day cafe and bar on Cherry Street and the newly opened coffee roastery on Wilcox, which is not open to the public.
“We want to use our business to impact several areas of life and community,” said Michael Rice, Mad Priest owner and operator. “With environmental being an arm of that, we wanted structure and accountability for the goals we’d set, both of which green|light provided. We believe the program will also be a source for improving our goals.”
Mad Priest diverts most of its waste from the landfill. All materials are curated to be compostable or recyclable, including coffee cups, lids, straws and take-away containers, which are composted through Compost House. Additionally, coffee grounds and chaff are donated to local farms for use with their livestock.
