ACE high school mentorship program kicks off Aug. 26

The ACE (Architecture, Construction, and Engineering) Mentor Program of Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia kicks off the week of Aug. 26.

ACE is an after-school mentoring program through which high school students meet with architects, engineers and builders to learn about careers in the design and construction industry. Students gain experience in working on a real-world project and have the opportunity to compete for scholarships.

This year, the student project will focus on the design and reconditioning of a former schoolhouse to house the Associated General Contractors of East Tennessee’s future construction center. Students will present their work at ACE’s annual scholarship event on Jan. 30.

The program is operating four school-based teams: Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences, East Ridge High School, Howard High School and Lafayette High School. There will be two open teams for students from any area high school at EMJ Corporation and Tinker Ma.

ACE is also recruiting architect, engineer and construction mentors for the 2019-2020 program. To become a mentor, register at www.acementor.org. All mentors are required to complete a background check and mentor training prior to working with students.
