Chattanooga State Community College recently honored two partners for Excellence in Philanthropy.
“We are recognizing both organizations for their generosity, leadership and commitment to our students,” said Chattanooga State President Dr. Rebecca Ashford in her opening address.
Dr. Kim McCormick, vice chancellor for external affairs for the Tennessee Board of Regents, recognized the Card-Monroe Corporation with the 2019 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Philanthropy.
Card-Monroe provides multiple student apprenticeships and an employee to teach in the school’s Engineering Technology Department and serve on advisory boards.
In addition, the company recently donated $100,000 to the Chattanooga State Foundation to establish a dedicated manufacturing lab in the Center for Engineering, Technology, Arts and Sciences building.
Also, Card-Monroe helped the college purchase specialized training software for engineering technology students.
Card-Monroe CEO Charles Monroe, President Brad Card and Vice President of Operations Allen Neely accepted the award.
TBR Regent Tom Griscom presented the 2019 Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy to Associated General Contractors of East Tennessee.
At a critical time during the expansion of the largest building on campus, the Chattanooga State Foundation received $150,000 from AGC of East Tennessee to fund a new construction lab in the CETAS Building.
AGC of East Tennessee also issued a corporate challenge to assist in raising more funds. As a direct result of the association’s leadership, the college received an additional $300,000 in corporate support and leveraged nearly $2 million in new money for the CETAS Building renovations and equipment.
In addition, AGC of East Tennessee members are engaged in college and technical advisory boards at Chattanooga State and provide community workforce training in partnership with Chattanooga State’s Economic and Workforce Development Division.
Jimmy Lail, immediate past chairman of AGC of East Tennessee and vice president of Raines Bros. Construction, accepted the award.
