The Chattanooga Mocs’ women’s soccer team will host nine matches this season and take on a pair of SEC foes in an 18-game schedule.
Head coach Gavin McKinney says the challenging non-conference schedule will prepare the team for Southern Conference play. “We’re confident going into 2019 as we return a group of players who have taken the program forward over the past several years,” he says. “Along with our returning group, we have a lot of fantastic additions to the squad. We’re excited about seeing how they come together on and off the pitch.”
Home matches
The Mocs open the season at home against Austin Peay on Aug. 23 at Finley Stadium. In September, Chattanooga will host ASUN champion Lipscomb (Sept. 1), Alabama (Sept. 8), Union (Sept 22) and open the Southern Conference season against Wofford (Sept. 27) and Furman (Sept. 29) on the final weekend of the month.
UTC will close out the regular season with a three-game home stand at the end of October. The Mocs will host VMI (Oct. 18), UNCG (Oct. 20) and then Samford in the season finale (Oct. 27).
On the road
Two of the Mocs’ three matches in August will be on the road. UTC will travel to Eastern Kentucky (Aug. 25) and then make its first trip to Florence, Alabama, to take on North Alabama (Aug. 30).
September will see the Mocs on the road for three contests. UTC will travel to Georgia State (Sept. 6) and then have a pair of Thursday matchups against Alabama (Sept. 8), Vanderbilt (Sept. 12) and Alabama A&M (Sept. 19).
October starts with a four-game SoCon road stretch. UTC will travel to Western Carolina (Oct. 4) and East Tennessee State (Oct. 6) for the opening weekend, then spend the next weekend at Mercer (Oct. 11) and The Citadel (Oct. 13).
UTC will have all-conference performers Chloe Arnold and Jordan Mueller as well as all-freshman honorees Ashton Shields, Maggie Shaw and Hollie Massey. They are joined by 10 letter winners from last year’s squad and will add seven more to the 2019 roster.
Chattanooga finished the 2018 season 8-8-3 overall and finished just one point out of third place in the Southern Conference. It was UTC’s best finish since McKinney’s arrival four years ago.
