Outrun Melanoma
The seventh annual Elizabeth’s Outrun Melanoma 5K Run and Walk will take place Saturday, May 11, at Enterprise South Nature Park. Registration, check-in and warmup activities begin at 8 a.m. The run and walk will start at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Elizabeth R. Smith Melanoma Program at CHI Memorial Rees Skillern Cancer Institute, which supports the prevention, awareness and research of melanoma, a form of skin cancer.
Rock City Gardens’ annual springtime festival
Rock City Gardens will host its 11th annual Southern Blooms Festival and Founder’s Day celebration May 11-12 and 18-19, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. New this year, guests will be able to personalize a postcard to send to friends or family, become a part of the art at Rock City by participating in a legacy painting and try butterfly pea flower tea at Café 7. Returning activities include Walking in Frieda’s Footsteps tours, gardening advice from Hamilton County Master Gardeners and fairy garden workshops. Family Dinner Week
Family Dinner Week officials are encouraging families to dine together at four local restaurants through May 12 to support homeless families in transition at The Maclellan Shelter for Families. Participating restaurants include Chicken with Bones, 6227 Lee Highway, Embargo 62, 301 Cherokee Blvd., State of Confusion, 301 E. Main St., and Stir, 1444 Market St. During Family Dinner Week, these establishments will donate a percentage of the cost of every meal to Maclellan Shelter.
Art Throw Down
Timur Akhriev will go brush to brush with visiting artist Nicolas Uribe from Bogota, Columbia, in Townsend Atelier’s upcoming Art Throw Down. Held May 14 from 6-9 p.m., 301 E. 11th St., the Art Throw Down will feature two professional artists painting live from the same model. Questions and friendly heckling will be encouraged. The event is open to the public free of charge. Both artworks will be auctioned off at the end of the evening. Reservations are not necessary.

The Chattanooga chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will host its Glitz & Glamour fashion show Saturday, May 18, at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
