Events: Take aim and try archery




Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park, will host free indoor archery sessions for all ages and skill levels every Wednesday in February and March, 3:30-6 p.m. All sessions will be walk-in (drop in any time during any session) and open to ages 5 and up. No reservation or prior experience will be required to participate. All equipment and instruction will be provided. 100 Black Women presents Mardi Gras Ball

The Chattanooga chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will present its annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m.-1 a.m., at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The organization will use the funds raised to fund scholarships and continue operating its Sista-to-Sista Mentoring Program at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.

Music for Septuagesima Sunday

The 2018-19 Barnett & Company Cantata Series continues Sunday, Feb. 17, 5 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 663 Douglas St., with music for the third Sunday before Lent (Septuagesima in the church year). The program will include music by Bach and Heinrich Isaac and feature young Signal Mountain-based violinist Kathleen DuRoy. Solo artists Cynthia Johnson (soprano), Rachel Walls (mezzo soprano), James Harr (tenor) and Karla Fowkes (organ) will join the Bach Choir.

U.S. Navy Band coming to Soddy-Daisy

The U.S. Navy Concert Band will perform at Soddy-Daisy High School Friday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m. The Navy Concert Band will present an array of marches, patriotic selections, orchestral transcriptions and modern wind ensemble repertoire. The performance will be free and open to the public.

Con Nooga returns

Chattanooga’s largest multifandom convention is returning to the Chattanooga Convention Center with more than 160,000 square feet of fandom fun. Con Nooga will open at noon Friday, Feb. 22 and continue through 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23. Admission badges may be purchased at the door. Information

Chattanooga State to present ‘Carmina Burana’

Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” will be presented in the Humanities Theatre at Chattanooga State Community College on Thursday, Feb. 28 and Friday, March 1, 7:30 p.m. The performance will feature Chattanooga State’s music department, Choral Arts of Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Ballet and Heritage High School Concert Choir. Chambliss Center for Children’s Mardi Gras Gala

Chambliss Center for Children will host its seventh annual Mardi Gras Gala on Friday, March 1, 7-11 p.m. at Bessie Smith Hall. The evening will begin with jazz piano and hurricanes in Preservation Hall. Guests may then stroll down Bourbon Street to receive their beads and preview the silent auction. The event will continue in the French Quarter with Dixieland jazz by the Ralph Miller Quartet, a late-night dance party and a parade. The evening will feature Cajun-inspired fare. Lincoln scholar presentation

Lincoln scholar Jonathan Putnam will speak on the topic “How the Youth Lincoln Became Our Lincoln” and sign copies of his new historical mystery, “Final Resting Place,” at an event sponsored by the Southern Lit Alliance in The Arts Building, 301 E 11th St., Saturday, March 2, 2 p.m. This presentation is part of the Southern Lit Alliance SouthBound Author Lecture series.
