A renovation of Memorial Auditorium at an estimated cost of $1 million has the support of the auditorium board of directors and the City Commission, and will be undertaken as soon as bonds are issued, Commissioner McInturff said Thursday.

Sunday, Sept. 6

Attorneys Mitchell Crawford and Maxfield Bahner have been admitted to partnership in the law firm of Chambliss, Chambliss & Hodge, the firm announced Sunday.

Monday, Sept. 7

Some 300 Elks from 28 lodges all over the state will begin arriving here Thursday morning for the 25th annual convention of the Tennessee Elks Lodge. The three-day event will be highlighted by an address Saturday morning by Grand Exalted Ruler Robert G. Pruitt of Atlanta.

Tuesday, Sept. 8

Approximately 80 civic workers will participate in the one-day membership campaign of the Greater Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, to be held Thursday. The drive will get under way with a 7:30 breakfast in the Read House, J. Fred Johnson, chairman of the Dynamo of Dixie Contact Club, membership development unit of the Chamber, announced.

Wednesday, Sept. 9

The board of directors of the Hamilton National Bank Wednesday named David L. Hill vice president - manager of the Brainerd branch and Earl A. Marler, Jr., assistant vice president – manager, according to J.E. Whitaker, chairman of the board.

Thursday, Sept. 10

The city school board Wednesday approved the transfer of George Blanchard from assistant principal of Chattanooga High School to principal of Elbert Long School, and the appointment of James Phifer as assistant principal at Chattanooga High.

Friday, Sept. 10

The Zayre Corp., which will soon open its first unit in Chattanooga in the Golden Gateway Shopping Center, has named Clarence H. “Walt” Walton, a native of Chattanooga, as the manager of the store.

Grand Ole Opry stars, local judging in the national wool needlework competition, and amateur art will be among new features at the 1964 Chattanooga – Hamilton County Interstate Fair, slated for Sept. 21-26 at Warner Park, it was announced by Olive Atwood, secretary of the fair.
