The Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga has appointed Evann Freeman to its board of directors.
Freeman is a Chattanooga native with more than a decade of experience in government relations. He serves as the director of government relations at EPB, where he leads their government relations and economic development efforts. Before working at EPB, Freeman spent the previous 11 years working for U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander across Tennessee. He serves on several nonprofit boards.
Girls Inc. names Johnson interim CEO
Toccora Johnson will be Girls Inc.’s interim CEO. Johnson takes the helm as Melissa Blevins departs to serve as president and CEO of the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
Johnson holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, is a graduate of the Chattanooga Leadership Academy and has been with Girls Inc. of Chattanooga for more than a decade, most recently as the senior director of program operations.
In that role, she brokered a partnership between Girls Inc., Hamilton County Schools and Chattanooga’s Youth and Family Development Centers to offer the Girls Inc. Experience to more than 800 girls in 2019. Johnson also developed the Bookworm Club, a literacy program for first through third grade girls, and helped Girls Inc. pivot to all in-person programs with a virtual platform in response to COVID-19.
Mauldin & Jenkins appoints new Chattanooga partner
Southeastern-based CPA firm Mauldin & Jenkins has made Jameson Miller a partner in its Chattanooga office. Miller has been with the firm since 2006.
Miller graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 2007. He is a certified public accountant with Tennessee, a certified information systems auditor and a certified information systems security professional.
Miller’s experience includes audits for financial institutions, public SEC companies, manufacturers, nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. He also has experience performing information systems regulatory compliance and framework reviews, SSAE 18 system and organization controls reporting and technical audits and cybersecurity assessments for information systems.
Miller is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, the International Information System Security Certification Consortium and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association.
He previously served on the board of directors for the Chattanooga chapter of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants as chair of the career awareness and community service committees.
Miller currently serves as the treasurer and secretary on the board of directors of the Cumberland Trails Conference. He and his wife and their two sons are avid outdoor enthusiasts who have completed over 460 miles of the Appalachian Trail and over 200 miles of trails within the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
Cardiologists Armstrong and Soufer join CHI
The Chattanooga Heart Institute at CHI Memorial recently welcomed cardiologists Chad Armstrong and Aaron Soufer.
Armstrong received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Armstrong is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Soufer received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, as well as a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine and an advanced fellowship in multimodality cardiac imaging. Soufer is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Chatt. St.’s Julius Dodds named to CTLI Cohort
The State Collaborative On Reforming Education recently named Chattanooga State’s Julius Dodds as one of 30 participants to its Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute cohort for the 2020-21 year. Dodds, director of academic retention, has been with Chattanooga State since 2008. Since 2016, CTLI has created a space where leaders from across Tennessee collectively focus on eliminating barriers to postsecondary education and completion.
First Horizon names Posey vice president and team lead
First Horizon Bank has named Rusty Posey vice president – senior portfolio manager and team lead for the Southeast Tennessee commercial banking group. Posey has served in several roles at First Horizon, including commercial credit analyst and most recently as portfolio manager.
Posey graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor’s degree in finance and also received his MBA from UTC.
