The flames from a house fire the morning of Friday, Sept. 21 could be seen for miles across Lookout Valley. Fortunately, the conflagration was planned.
The training division of the Chattanooga Fire Department used a house donated by Lookout Valley Baptist Church to conduct training exercises for its Fire Academy 2018 recruits.
For ten days preceding the live burn, the recruits learned about firefighter survival, search and rescue and fire suppression. Once the training was complete, the house was set on fire and allowed to burn to the ground.
The curriculum for the 23 recruits has since moved on to vehicle extrication and hazardous materials. Recruits who complete every phrase of training will graduate on Nov. 8.
