I need 1,000 “likes”

Social media is a great way to connect with people. Some people use it to connect with old friends; others use it to find a date. Social media has even been used to start uprisings around the world. Social media can be either good or bad, but one thing is for sure: Social media is here for the foreseeable future, and we ignore it at our peril.

Social media is even becoming prevalent in political campaigns. Candidates all over the world use social media to spread the word. While social media is great for campaigns, it can also serve as a drag on a candidate if they’re spending too much time and attention on worrying about how the site is doing and how many people are following the page.

The more people that follow a campaign’s page, the more a candidate’s name and message get out. As I have been tangentially involved with a campaign for the last year and a half, I have watched with interest as a number of candidates have used Facebook to help them in their attempt to get elected. The need for “likes” on a page can even drive a person to spend money to seek out “likes” from strangers. Paying money for “likes” from strangers just doesn’t seem right, does it?

I was talking with a good friend the other day about ways we could get Patti more likes for her Facebook page [facebook.com/james4judge]. We decided the best way was to invite personal friends to “like” the page. I told him I have a lot of friends that read this column, including some in Tennessee. It was agreed that I should ask my friends that read this to like the page [facebook.com/james4judge].

So, for those of you that don’t know Patti, you know how great she is just from reading this column. Besides, if you like me, you have to like Patti [facebook.com/james4judge]! She’s definitely the best part of me.

Here’s what I’m asking you to do: Please go to Patti’s page, “like” it and then invite your friends on Facebook to “like” the page. Together, we can start our own little revolution and make sure the best person in the race gets elected. It’s that important. If you can think of no other reason to “like” the page than it’s what is best for the children appearing in that particular court, that should be good enough.

With your help, we can get 1,000 or more new “likes.” How happy would that make any candidate? More importantly, how good would starting a mini-revolution to get a page liked make me look? So, it’s for a good cause and it will make me look good. It’s a win-win for everyone involved! It’s so easy, even a caveman can do it [facebook.com/james4judge]!

Just take a minute from your time reading this column while you’re working and get on Facebook. Be part of a revolution and help a friend. We are friends, aren’t we?

Everyone can use a “like” know and then, even those of us way up in the CHEAP SEATS!
