Former President Taft has spent three days with the Lincoln Memorial Commission deciding on the awarding of the contract for the Lincoln Memorial Monument, which will cost over $1,637,800.
Sunday, September 28
Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses S. Garrett announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Marie Marguerite, to Ran Killingsworth. The wedding will take place November 6. The young couple will make their home in Anniston, Ala.
Miss Katherine Betts will go to Knoxville this week for a 10-day visit.
Monday, September 29
The engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Ruth Daniels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Daniels of Cincinnati, to William G. Oehmig, Jr. of Chattanooga, son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Oehmig, was announced at a large reception given by the bride’s parents. Both are members of well-known families, and their engagement is of great interest in both cities.
Misses Helen Boddy and Kate Thomas spent last weekend in Sale Creek as the guests of Miss Mildred Boddy.
R.H. Parrent and granddaughters, Margaret and Annadosia Hunt, have returned from an extended western trip.
Tuesday, September 30
Miss Ethelwyn Porter of Philadelphia will arrive Wednesday to take charge of the extension department and missionary work of the YWCA. Miss Jude, the new associate secretary, announced the schedule for gym classes.
Mrs. J.C. Hutcheson and Miss Rosalie Hutcheson of Texas are the guests of Signal Mountain Inn since closing their Signal Mountain home.
Mr. and Mrs. James Gager will leave this week for a trip to New York.
Wednesday, October 1
The annual banquet of the local Institute of Banking will be held at the Read House Thursday night. Judge Nathan L. Bachman will be toastmaster. T.R. Preston, president of Hamilton National Bank, W.A. Sadd, president of Chattanooga Savings Bank, and J.B.F. Lowery of the Citizens National, will be the speakers.
Mrs. R.T. Faucette and children returned Monday from a summer’s stay in North Carolina. Mrs. Faucette’s sister, Miss Mary Sanford, accompanied them home.
Thursday, October 2
At the 90th Conference of the Holston Conference, it was announced that Dr. J.W. Perry had resigned as pastor of Centenary Church and that Dr. George R. Stuart will be assigned here. Dr. Perry is to serve as directive missionary secretary for the Holston Conference.
Misses Annette Baxter, Margaret Davenport, and Elizabeth Greene have left Paris for southern France. They will be joined by Mrs. S.D. Lodor and daughters, Bessie and Susie, and will return to Paris for the winter.
Prof. Joseph Cadek and family have arrived in New York after four months travel in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. They will arrive in Chattanooga the last of the week.
Friday, October 3
Mrs. John S. Shaw of New Orleans, formerly Miss Lucille Crumbliss of Kingston, is the guest of her parents, Major and Mrs. Henry Crumbliss. She will visit Miss Ann Warner later.
Miss Margaret Pritchard is home from a visit with relatives in North Carolina.
